About Heidi: Heidi teaches in VAS/Art Education at the University of Texas at Austin in the Department of Art and Art History, and is an artist and scholar of Native American (Lenni Lenape) and Norwegian descent. Her more recent scholarly research emphasizes Narrative Inquiry and Experienced-Based research methods addressing pedagogy in arts education, medicine and arts integration, indigenous identities, and art cultures. She served as a public school teacher in the Houston area for 14 years before earning her doctorate in 2006. Prior to her appointment at the University of Texas at Austin in January of 2014, she
she served at the University of Texas Medical Branch as Special Appointed Faculty and Visiting Scholar (2013), was a National Art Education Association delegate to Cuba, an invited artist-scholar to the Freies Atelierhaus Schaumbad in Austria (2011) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jq199DNXIiE ), served as an National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow (2010) to Alaska (UAS) and British Columbia (UBC), and was a Fulbright Scholar (2009) at the Iceland Academy for the Arts- Listahaskoli Islands as well as a visiting scholar at the Uni-Graz (Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz). She exhibits nationally and internationally-Graz, Austria; Reykjavik, Iceland; Zagreb, Croatia; Arkansas; Washington; Connecticut; and Texas, to name a few. Her sculpture “Voices of Our Ancestors,” is on permanent loan to the Depot Museum in Morrilton, Arkansas, and tells the story of her great, great, grandmother Diodema born on the Trail of Tears. About Erica: Erica teaches photography at Green Valley High School in Henderson, Nevada, a Grammy Award winning high school. She is a practicing visual artist as both photographer and two-dimensional mixed media artist often focusing on portraiture and tradition, feminist perceptions, and gender roles reflecting her Jewish roots,. She has earned a Master's Degree in Teacher Leadership, and is scheduled to finish her National Board Certification in January of 2016. Erica's research focuses on teacher as researcher using Action Research as a methodology. She is interested in LBGTQ issues across education and community contexts with an emphasis on inclusive art environments for learning as well as the applied use of technology in public school art classrooms. She actively mentors and conducts professional development and presents at conferences at the regional and national level about teaching methods and technology. Erica is dedicated to her craft as an educator and artist and travels extensively with students promoting site based experiential learning through photography, history, and multicultural experiences. Her students have won regional and national awards in photography.
